Natural treatment for diabetes

Natural treatment for diabetes

By Jay North

“The medical establishment works closely with the drug multinationals whose main objective is profits, and whose worst nightmare would be an epidemic of good health. Lots of drugs must be sold. In order to achieve this, anything goes: lies, fraud, and kickbacks. Doctors are the principal salespeople of the drug companies. They are rewarded with research grants, gifts, and lavish perks. The principal buyers are the public – from infants to the elderly – who MUST be thoroughly medicated and vaccinated…at any cost! Why do the authorities forbid alternative medicine? Because they are serving the industry, and the industry cannot make money with herbs, vitamins, and homeopathy until they license it to their benefit. They cannot patent natural remedies, not yet anyways. That is why they push synthetics. They control medicine, and that is why they are able to tell medical schools what they can and cannot teach.” Guylaine Lanctot, M.D

Natural remedies for diabetics are not taken as seriously by people as they should be. Instead, people become insulin-dependent and often require higher and more frequent dosages of insulin in order to maintain some modicum of normalcy in their lives. Diabetics can obtain a natural cure simply by adapting to a raw foods diet or adhering to a vegetarian diet, and shunning of the over-processed and refined foods that often cause juvenile-onset or adult-onset diabetes (often predicated by hyperglycemia or hyperglycemic symptoms) to begin with.

I remember when I was visiting in the home of some friends. Their young daughter, age six, went to the refrigerator, took out a small vial of insulin and filled her needle, went to her mother and asked her to check it to make sure it was right, then came over, stood directly in front of me and proudly and quickly injected herself in the arm.

Of course I gave her instant praise for doing such a great job. It was evident that she was very proud of herself for being able to do this, but at the same time, my heart broke. Why should a young child have to do something like this to herself? Not just once but every day and possibly for the rest of her life. While other children were taking pride in the new found ability to tie their own shoestrings, why should Sharon have to have mastered the skill to be able to stick a needle in her arm and give herself insulin shots in case the time ever came when she needed to have an injection and there was no adult available who had the skill to be able to do it for her? It was then that I determined that, although I’m not a doctor, as I researched into the field of living healthy through eating organically and natural healing, I would learn all I could about anything that nature had to offer that might help those persons with diabetes and many other physical challenges. It might not stop Sharon from having to take the shots, but it might help her to live healthier and possibly all the other “Sharon’s” in the world also.

Does nature have anything to offer? Yes it does. What I personally consider to be miraculous cures and wondrous natural organic gifts that will control this disease so that maybe at least some of those who have it will not have to stick needles into themselves. These things have been shown to help to control blood sugar levels and so be a tremendous gift to those with diabetes in a healthy, natural way.

One such organic substance is Aspalathus linearis, otherwise known as Rooibos.

Rooibos is an herb which has been found growing only in the Cedarberg Mountains on the Western Cape of South Africa. It is a natural substance which many doctor and other health care experts believe helps to keep the human body healthy organically in a wide variety of areas, including diabetes. It is believed to help control blood sugar levels. It is extremely nutritious and contains alphahydroxy acid, potassium, copper, magnesium, calcium, iron, zinc, manganese and fluoride.

Rooibos is taken into the body as a tea. In Africa, it is referred to as the miracle tea while the people in Japan refer to it as the long life tea. It contains absolutely no caffeine and a very small amount of tannin, so it is very sweet on its own without having any sweetening substance added. The indigenous people of South Africa, harvest the wild rooibos, cut the leaves and stems, and then beat them with wooden hammers. After this, they are fermented in heaps and then sun dried. When they are deemed to be ready, they are brewed and enjoyed.

Another organic substance believed by many to help to combat diabetes is Sutherlandia frutescence, which is also called Kanker Bossie or Cancer Bush. This too is indigenous to South Africa. Sutherlandia frutescens has been shown to be a source of pinitol which has been proven clinically to be an effective anti-diabetes agent. Sutherlandia frutescens also has been shown to be a major combatant against other diseases that attack the human body. The people in South Africa prepare Sutherland frutescens and take it as an herbal tonic, feeling that its health benefits are worth the bitter taste which it produces.

Herbal remedy believed to have great benefit: Salacia oblonga is a woody plant from India and Sri Lanka that is little-known in the United States, but a recent study at Ohio State University is changing that. Practitioners of traditional Indian medicine have used the herb for years to treat diabetes, and the study indicates that ingesting the herb does lower insulin and blood sugar levels.

David Crawford, well know nutritional expert and a member of the Nutritional Therapy Council, recommends to a number of his patients who have diabetes that they try drinking juice extracted from Brussels sprouts and string beans, both of these being natural sources of insulin. He also recommends foods that are natural sources of silicon, since this has been shown to help to support the pancreas. Such foods are lettuce, mustard greens, olives, asparagus, dandelion greens, cabbage, cucumbers, alfalfa, and radishes which he often includes in his juicing recipes.

Scientists at the University of Manitoba in Canada, claim that their research studies show that the herb known as buckwheat may be beneficial as a treatment for diabetes. Lead researcher Dr Carla Taylor said, “With diabetes on the rise, incorporation of buckwheat into the diet could help provide a safe, easy and inexpensive way to lower glucose levels and reduce the risk of complications associated with the disease, including heart, nerve and kidney problems. Buckwheat won’t cure diabetes,” she added. “But we’d like to evaluate its inclusion in food products as a management aid.”

The main ingredient in buckwheat is chiroinositol, a compound which is seldom found in other sources. Researchers are not sure just how it works, but are convinced that it does have a direct, positive effect on in making cells more sensitive to insulin or may ever act as an insulin mimic.

Another warrior (I am, after all, Blackfeet) in the battle against diabetes is what is called the Glycaemic Index. No, this isn’t some never-before-heard-of food; it is rather a way of scaling the rate at which various foods affect the blood sugar levels. An erratic “bouncing” of blood sugar levels from one level to the other can cause erratic behavior in a person with diabetes, which can be as frustrating to the person with diabetes as it is to those around them.

The secret seems to be to eat foods that are on the lower level of the Glycaemic Index — that is, those that are ranked at fifty or less. By so doing, you can cut down on and possibly eliminate such unacceptable behaviors as food rages, road rages, temper tantrums and squabbling, all of which have been shown to be reactions to low blood sugar levels, rather than deliberate bad behavior.

Macrobiotic diet consisting of mainly brown rice and steamed vegetables has been reported to be extremely beneficial. The most popular diet for treating diabetes is a macrobiotic diet that excludes all forms of white sugar salt and meat of any kind. (Nope, no cheese burgers.) The foods that are included are non-spiced brown rice and steamed vegetables. The Pritikin Diet is fairly well known throughout the world for treating people with diabetes with this special diet and exercise. People who are challenged with this dis-ease are well advised to increase their activity level and long walks and jogging are in order.

Also dark green organic vegetables and as much fruit as one desire is cover extensively in the book Fit for Life.

Now remember, I am not a doctor. I am a farmer and spiritual healer, a writer and a researcher. I do not recommend that you go off and start self-doctoring yourself with this stuff! Talk to your doctor; ask him or her about the possibility of these organic substances being of help to you. You may have other health issues that will offer good reasons why they would not be. Don’t get your medical advice completely from the pages of a book – this one or any other! Check through the various sources available to you, including your medical doctor, and get on the regime that is best for you.

You hear people say there is no cure for diabetes, but there actually is if you look to the organic foods produced by nature. Plant-based vegetarian foods, whole foods like whole grains and breads, and organic foods that are rich in organic nutrients and enzymes that promote healthy digestion are the key to curing diabetes naturally. A diabetic can change his diet and lifestyle, opting for holist healing foods and choosing to shop at organic food stores – and he will feel the difference in his overall health and well being.

Often we develop food addictions to high carbohydrate, high sugar foods; these are the foods that exacerbate the condition of diabetes and put undue stress on our organs, including the insulin-producing pancreas. Foods that are high in simple carbohydrates, including refined sugars, are in no way a part of naturally curing diabetes. The opposite is true, as these organic and nutritional foods work with your body to prevent disease and promote holistic health.

Herbs that cure cancer

1 ASTRAGALUS (Huang Qi): A Chinese herb; an immune system booster, known to stimulate body´s natural production of interferon. It also helps the immune system identify rogue cells. Work with the herb in both cancer and AIDS cases have been encouraging. The MD Anderson Cancer Centre in Texas conducted research showing that taking Astragalus when having Radiotherapy doubled survival times.

2 BERBERIS FAMILY (e.g. Podophyllum peltanum): Slow active purgative. Research has shown these herbs to have a strong action against cancer and they have been used with many cancers, especially ovarian cancer. In Cancer Watch March 2015, the herb was shown in research to outperform brain cancer drug, Temozolomide in vitro.

3 BLOODROOT (Sanguinaria Canadensis): Research shows consistent anti-neoplastic activity. It has been shown to be effective against cancer tumors, and can shrink them; it is one of the herbs in an anti-cancer poultice called Black Salve; and has proven useful with sarcomas.

4 BUTCHERS BROOM (Ruscus aculeatus): The active ingredients of this herb have been found to be the ruscogenins which have tumor-shrinking and anti-oestrogenic abilities. Thus its use in the treatment of breast cancer.

5 CAT’S CLAW (Uncaria tormentosa): An adaptogen and powerful immune-stimulant, it enhances the white cells cleanup process (phagocytosis). It is an excellent companion to astragalus, curcumin and Echinacea. Research indicates it can reduce tumor size, particularly with skin cancers. It also helps reduce the side-effects of chemo and radiotherapy.

6 CHAPARRAL (Larrea Mexicana): Cancer Watch covered a major research study from the US which heaped praise on this herb. It appears to boost the immune system, stop metastases and reduce tumor size. Seems especially interesting with breast cancer and is another ingredient in Black Salve. It is also an anti-oxidant and anti-microbial, with low toxicity.

7 CURCUMIN (Turmeric): This spice (Curcuma longa or Turmeric root) has been shown to have significant anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory activity. That alone seems enough for certain hospitals in America to consider using it in the treatment of polyps and colon cancer. However new research shows that it can both shrink cancer tumors and inhibit blood supply growth to tumors. It is a powerful antioxidant with liver protective benefits, and outperformed several anti-inflammatory drugs without side-effects in research.

8 DANG SHEN ROOT (Codonopsis pilosula): increases both the white blood cell and red blood cell levels, so can be extremely helpful to patients having chemotherapy and radiotherapy, or to patients whose cancer diminishes levels of either.

9 ECHINACEA: Another known immune system booster, it gained a populist reputation in treating colds.  There is research on its helpfulness with brain tumors apart from its abilities to increase the levels of certain immune white cells in the body.

10 FEVERFEW: This herb caused a storm when research from Rochester University in New York showed it to be more effective than the drug cytarabine in killing leukaemia cells. The US Food and Drug Agency put the active ingredient, parthenolide, on to its fast track program. Nothing has yet been heard. But then, the FDA has never approved an herb for use as a cancer treatment.

11 GOLDENSEAL: One cause of stomach cancer can be the bacterium Helicobacter pylori. This burrows into the mucous lining of the stomach to hide from gastric acids, and then causes irritation, acid reflux, ulcers and even cancer. Goldenseal is generally anti-microbial and is used in the Caribbean and South East Asia against parasites. Goldenseal, helped by the mineral Bismuth, will kill Helicobacter pylori. Vets seem to know this, even if doctors don´t.

12 MILK THISTLE: Known for years to be helpful to the liver, this herb has now been shown to be capable of protecting the liver during chemotherapy. Research in America showed that leukemia patients who took milk thistle had reduced liver toxicity and chemo side-effects. There is a little evidence that it has its own anti-cancer activity too.

13 PAU D’ARCO: This tree bark was original thought to be a strong anti-cancer agent, but then its actions were clarified as strongly anti-bacterial, anti-yeast and anti-microbial. That alone might be enough in some cases of cancer cause. But new research on the differing ingredients has shown the quinoids possess immune strengthening abilities and seem to help in cases of blood and lymph cancers.

14 RED CLOVER: Research from a number of cancer centers including the Royal Marsden has shown its potential as a part of a treatment program against oestrogen-driven cancers, from breast to prostate. One active ingredient in the so-called Herb of Hippocrates is the anti-oestrogen Genistein, which Professor Powles formerly of the Royal Marsden dubbed ´the anti-estrogen´.

15 SHEEP’S SORRELL: Used in Essiac and other herbal remedies, it is a cleanser and aids healthy tissue regeneration. There is some suggestion from research that it helps normalize damaged cells and tissue. It is also a highly praised ´vermifuge´ – intestinal worms have little or no resistance to this herb.

16 SKULLCAP (Scutellaria barbate): Research has shown action against many cancer types, for example against cancers of the lung, stomach and intestines.

17 SUTHERLANDIA (Cancer Bush): Peer reviewed research studies indicate that this herb is anti-inflammatory, anti-viral and anti-fungal. It boosts the immune system and inhibits tumor Necrosis Factor, known to drive wasting in cancer patients.

18 THOROWAX, or HARES EAR (Bulpleurum scorzoneraefolium): Research has shown its ability to enhance the production of natural interferon and it seems especially useful in bone cancer.

19 WHEATGRASS: One of the top private hospitals in South East Asia extols the benefits of freshly juiced wheatgrass. One shot gives you the chlorophyll of some 12 or more kilograms of broccoli. It acts as a blood purifier, and liver and kidney cleansing agent. In research, after two weeks of daily use, blood and tissue oxygen levels improve, as does circulation.

20 WORMWOOD: Another Chinese Herb, this has outperformed certain anti-malaria drugs and is now used by the aid agencies. It is strongly anti-microbial and anti-yeast and can be used as an effective part of an anti-Candida diet. Also certain cancer treatments cause excesses of yeasts to form (for example, in leukemia treatment) threatening the patients health further. Excess yeasts are even felt by some cancer experts to be one of the causes of cancer. However, in recent research Wormwood has been shown to have direct anti-cancer properties.

The value of coffee enemas

By Jay North

There are dozens of clinics now throughout the world that treat seriously challenged health issues with coffee enemas to attempt to cure various ailments, including but not limited to cancer, heart disease, diabetes and HIV.

A clean colon, intestines, liver, and kidney are essential to maintaining good health and vitality. As the older we get, the more important it becomes to clean the inside(s).

Over a person’s lifetime, there will be many opportunities to consume many unhealthy substances – food additives, drugs, chemicals used in the production of produce, meat, cheese, canned foods, fast food, polluted air and water. One of the best modalities for removing the effects of these harmful items is regular enemas and high colonics.

How does it work?

The very last part of the colon, before reaching the rectum, is in an “S” shape and referred to as the sigmoid colon. By the time stool gets to this part of the colon, many nutrients have been absorbed back into the bloodstream. Because the stool contains products of putrefaction at this point, there exists a special circulatory system between the sigmoid colon and the liver. There is a direct communication of veins called the enterohepatic circulation.

Have you ever felt sick just before having a bowel movement, when stool material has just moved into the rectum for elimination? As soon as the material is evacuated, you no longer feel sick, right? This is due of the toxic quality of the material and the enterohepatic circulation coming into play in the colon. Because of this, it is important to evacuate when you have the urge. The rectum should be empty.

This circulatory system enables toxin to be sent directly to the liver for detoxification, rather than circulating them through the rest of the body and all of its vital organs including the brain which in many cases carries the effect of what is often termed “depression” in our society. This system of veins carries rectal sigmoid toxins directly to the liver for detoxification.

How Do Coffee Enemas Work to Heal the Body?

When a coffee enema is used, the caffeine from the coffee is preferentially absorbed into this system and goes directly to the liver where it becomes a very strong detoxicant and acts quickly to remove toxins. It causes the liver to produce more bile (which contains processed toxins) and moves bile out toward the small intestine for elimination. This frees up the liver to process more incoming toxic materials that have accumulated in the organs, tissues and bloodstream. The coffee does not go into the systemic circulation, unless the enema procedure is done improperly.

The coffee contains some alkaloids that also stimulate the production of glutathione-S-transference, an enzyme used by the liver to make the detox pathways run. It is vital in the formation of more glutathione, one of the main conjugation chemicals, enabling toxins to be eliminated via bile into the small intestine. In other words, a coffee enema speeds up the detoxification process and minimizes the backlog of yet-to-be-detoxified substances. You will require the following materials:

5    An enema bag or bucket, preferably one of clear plastic that you can see through the material to watch water levels

6    A large stainless steel cooking pot

7    Organic coffee fully caffeinated, drip grind coffee. Organic is essential because you are working to remove toxins, not put them in

8    A source of uncontaminated water. Use distilled water whenever possible; Chlorinated water should be boiled for 20 minutes

The see-through enema bag/ bucket is preferable, but an old fashioned type that doubles as a hot water bottle can be used although it is hard to tell how much is used at each pass. Do not use any bag with a strong odor.

Procedure

Start and end with a clear water enema.  Do not use coffee in the beginning; rather, do clear water cleanse first, and then coffee, and then one more clear water cleanse.

1.   Put a little over one (1) quart of clean water in a pan and bring it to a boil. Add two (2) flat tablespoons of coffee (or the coffee amount that has been suggested for you). Let it continue to boil for five minutes, then turn the stove off, leaving the pan on the burner.

2.   Allow it to cool down to a very comfortable, tepid temperature. Test with your finger. It should be the same temperature as a baby’s bottle. It’s safer to have it too cold than too warm; never use it hot or steaming; body temperature is good.

3.   Next, carry your pan or pot and lay an old towel on the floor (or your bed if you are careful and know you won’t spill).  For safety, a piece of plastic can be placed under the towel). If you don’t use an old towel, you will soon have many more old towels: coffee stains permanently. Use another bunch of towels, if you want, as a pillow.

4.   Pour the coffee from the pan into the enema bucket without getting the coffee grounds in the cup. You may prefer to use an intermediate container with a pour spout when going from the pan to the enema bucket. Do not use a paper filter to strain the grounds. Put your enema bag in the sink with the catheter clamped closed.

5.   Pour the coffee into the enema bag. Loosen the clamp to allow the coffee to run out to the end of the catheter tip and re-clamp the bag when all the air has been removed from the enema tubing.

6.   Use a coat hanger to hang the enema bag at least two feet above the floor; on a door knob or towel rack. The bucket can rest on a chair, shelf or be held. Do not hang it high, as on a shower head, because it will be too forceful and the hose won’t reach your body. It should flow very gently into the rectum.

7.   Lie down on the floor on your back or right side and gently insert the catheter. You will need lubrication.  Food-grade vegetable oil such as olive oil, a vitamin E capsule, or KY Jelly should be fine, unless you are chemically sensitive. It is a good idea to avoid petroleum products.

8.   Gently insert the tube into the rectum a few inches and then release the clamp and let the first 1/2 of the quart (2 cups maximum) of coffee flow in. Clamp the tubing off as soon as there is the slightest amount of discomfort or fullness.

9.   Retain the enema for a minimum of twelve (12) minutes. Sometimes there will be an immediate urgency to get rid of it and that is fine. It helps to clean the stool out of the colon so that next time around you can hold more of the enema longer. This is why one starts with a clear water enema in the beginning to get things cleared out. Never force yourself to retain it.  If you feel that you cannot hold the water, don’t. When you have clamped the tubing, remove the catheter tip and “clear” when you have to. It is best to hold it for at least 12 minutes each time.

10. After you have emptied the bowel, proceed with the remaining 1/2 quart and likewise hold that for at least 12 minutes, if able, then clear again.  The goal is to have two coffee enemas, not exceeding half a quart (2 cups) each, that you are able to hold for twelve to fifteen minutes each. Usually two or three times will use up all of the enema, but that is not your goal; being able to hold it for twelve to twenty minutes is your goal.

11. When you have finished your session, rinse out the bag and hang it up to dry. Periodically run boiling water, peroxide, or other comparable antimicrobial agent through the empty bag to discourage mold and bacteria growth when not in use.

If you should feel wired or hyper, or have palpitations or irregular heartbeats after a coffee enema, you should reduce the amount of coffee you use next time, usually by half for a few days or weeks. Or consider that you really need organic coffee. Be sure the source of your water is good, clean chemical-free spring, distilled, or filtered water.

Sometimes you will hear or feel a squirting out and emptying of the gallbladder. This occurs under the right rib cage, or sometimes more closely to the midline. If, after a week of daily enemas, you have never felt or heard the gall bladder release, you should consider making the coffee stronger, going up in half-tablespoon increments per quart, not exceeding two tablespoons per cup. Alternately, you may need a slightly larger volume, such as three cups at a time. Three enemas (two cups or less each) rather than two at a session are more beneficial for some.

Always discontinue the enemas if there is any adverse reaction whatsoever, and discuss it with your doctor at your next appointment. If you find the enema helpful, do not use it more than once per day for any extended period without medical supervision. Use it as necessary, perhaps several days in a row, but more commonly a few times a week.

Following your cleansing; always consume living acidophilus (Bio –K can be purchased at most health food stores). Fresh water is important as well, and you should also rest for a short period of time. Do not leave the house right away; more ‘clearing’ will come shortly after the session is complete.

Other Enemas for Specific Treatments

In many cultures throughout the world, herbal enemas are applied in the treatment of seriously debilitating dis-eases, challenges and aliments. Many of the herbs used grow naturally in the countries they are used. For instance, Pau D`Arco, an herb of bark, is used as a cleanser and cancer treatment in South America, while North America natives have used Chaparral for centuries as a cleanser, purifier and a cancer treatment. Red Clover and Yellow Dock have also been used in enemas as a blood cleanser, blood and bowl purifier, and a treatment for various forms of cancers.

There are dozens of books on the market that discuss in great detail the use of herbal medicine for the treatment of – and a very possibly the cure for – every ailment spoken out of the mouths of mankind. The very best source I have read is Dr. John Christopher’s School of Natural Healing.

Herbs used in the treatment of body challenges should be ingested through the mouth in tea form, taken with enemas, used in sweats (as in a sauna), and bathed in.

When using the herbs in enema form, do you’re very best to find them grown organically and buy only freshly dried herbs.

The procedure works like this:

1.   Boil two quarts distilled water and the herbs you intend to use in stainless still pan. Boil for twenty minutes or until one quart boils down completely, so you have one quart left in the pan. Once this occurs, turn the flame off and add one quart fresh cool water.

2.   Allow to stand until water cools to a comfortable level, and then pour contents into enema bag or bucket.

3.   Apply clear water with a second bag or bucket, clear the contents in the lower colon.

4.   Use the herbal recipe. Hold the water and herbal recipe for twenty minutes if you can and then clear.

5.   Repeat the process with clear water one more time.

For serious challenges or health issues, repeat this process daily for thirty days, stop for several days and then go back and do it again. Yes, healing does occasionally require personal responsibility and activity. And of course, always check with your doctor before applying an herbal cleanse.
