And the band plays on—who will listen?

BILLINGS, MT – “The Exxon pipeline rupture into the Yellowstone River is being cited as a reason to give the proposed Keystone XL tar-sands pipeline new scrutiny. The Keystone project, a much larger pipeline, also would cross the Yellowstone, along with the Missouri and 400 other waterways around the state.” USA Today.

Leonard J. Mountain Chief predicted today’s disasters more than a two decades ago and author Jay North wrote about them in his book Open Spaces: My Life With Leonard J. Mountain Chief—Blackfeet Elder From Northwest Montana.

In the 1990s, Blackfeet Elder Leonard J. Mountain Chief had visions of the deadly earthquake in Japan and the subsequent nuclear fallout. He foresaw the horrors of hurricane Katrina. He warned about the threat of oil spills in the Gulf of Mexico. And in his native homeland of Montana he envisioned catastrophic floods and pollution caused by the latest oil spill.

“When will they listen?” Leonard often asked. “Who will listen before the children no longer have a place to run and play?”

Before he passed away in 1999, Leonard J. Mountain Chief commanded author Jay North to help spread the word of the immense danger facing planet Earth. Perhaps now people will listen.
